Self Acceptance/Self Acceptance Issues
Lack of self acceptance/self acceptance issues plagued me most of my life. My memoir, Following the Whispers tracks the start of the self-hatred which led to lack of self acceptance/self acceptance issues that inhabited my soul—until I learned differently.
We aren’t born hating ourselves. We develop self acceptance/self acceptance issues. It is behavior learned early in childhood from the ways we are treated by parents, other family members, friends, teachers, as well as encounters with strangers. Self acceptance can only come with healthy self-esteem and healthy self-esteem can only exist if self acceptance/self acceptance issues are uncovered and dealt with.
At twenty-eight, I lost custody of my only child. That crisis catapulted me into a journey of awakening. A soul-searing question burned inside me: what was wrong with me that I could lose custody of my child? It became a journey of discovering my self acceptance/self acceptance issues and how lack of self-esteem led to devastating consequences.
My self acceptance/self acceptance issues included hating how I looked, mistrusting my own opinions and judgments, believing no one could possibly love me, doubting my abilities, believing my son didn’t love me, and becoming convinced that there was some fatal flaw in me so I’d better not let anyone close because they’d find that flaw and leave me.
In Following the Whispers you will follow my discovery of self acceptance/self acceptance issues. You will see how, once uncovered, my self acceptance/self acceptance issues, which manifested as self-hatred, turned to self-acceptance and the beginnings of self love.
